First off, keep this suggestion out of the realitymod.com public forums.

What would you guys think about the following?
We have our command post vehicles already, right?
What about giving them physics and make them deploy the command tent?
(similar to how supplytrucks are dropping crates, but instead the command tent spawns similar like a foxhole, works only in the outside and on even grounds).

The tent is destroyable, the Commander Vehicle can be rearmed at base.
The command tent gets some radio chatter sound, so that players can hear it up to 100 meters.
In case the tent gets destroyed or is not deployed at all, UAV is not available. No command post, no UAV access...

Server admins can enforce the rule to not have the mobile UAV station in the deadzone (similar to mortars already).


UAV gets available 5mins after the command tent had been deployed. So there is also a start delay to limit commanders watching the enemy deployment right at the beginning.

What does the community think?


PS:
destroyable UAV vehicle (like shooting it down with AAs) ideas will be deleted, as this is not possible for certain reasons.
PPS: The whole concept, like spawn time ect, is not really made yet. Ideas are appreciated.

Nice, one squad dedicated to defending that outpost will be cool.
Like the Commanders personal guards.

Very good idea with more fun for CO.
But I would also link the UAV with a radius to the CO vehicle.

Same idea here would force the teams to make another tactical decision. Maybe something like mortar range, plus enemy armor got the chance to fall back.

But i guess a restriction on UAV deployment is diffifuclt to implement plus you have to consider the view distance of the UAV which is enormous.

And i would give the tent a real good camouflage not spottable in thermal plus it should take only little or even no damage with bombs else the team which spots the tent first got a huge advantage with the only uav up and destroying all the time the enemy tent and commander apc.

Respawn time of the Commander Apc ?

I haven't thought about the respawn time yet, maybe 10 minutes?

Addtional. you could drive the vehicle back to base after you've deployed the command tent. So it is save. To drive that vehicle, you would need the officer kit and need to be commander.

Did I get you right?

I apply for CO.
I take Officer.
I hop into CO-Vehicle.
I drive it to position XYZ.
I deploy CO-Tent just like a CSB/Crate/Repair Station.
(I drive the Vehicle back to main.
I walk/transport back to the tent.)

I hop in and can deploy and operate the UAV.

When I set a new tent, the old one will immediately be removed?
I agree with the non-thermal-bility (or whatever), but maybe the tent should be within x metres near a friendly FOB?

Vehicle Respawn of 10 seems fine.
How can the tent be destroyed? C4? How can the CO inside be killed?

Also, I think waiting 5 minutes for UAV after deploying the tent is a bit too much. 1 min should be fine.

Name Suggestion(s): UAV Terminal, Command Outpost, ... :)

Image a CO tent placed in the center of a FOB. Covered by AA and HMG’s. Maybe you should be even able to spawn at the CO post and place deployables around it, so pretty much like a FOB. I mean if the CO jumps out and drops his RP is is pretty much a fixed spawn point already. Deploying the CO tent should take some time, simulating packing / unpacking the stuff.

I can imagine some epic convoy action, escorting the CO. The respawn time of the CO vehicle should be 10mins. The CO post would be a high value target so it needs protection.

This would take the CO closer to the rest of the team, he actually needs people around him, guarding him while he is commanding and operating the UAV. At the moment the CO is sitting in main (for ever alone) and is pretty much a pencil pusher. The UAV range should be connected to the tent.

Definitely sounds better than the current system. I would say, CO vehicle (APC or whatever) should stay with the tent instead of driving back to main and stay safe after the tent is deployed. To replace the CO post, needs RTB and rearm after every deployment. Because CO post should be at already safe (or covered) position than the trial-error positions with replacing it constantly. If the team risks the CO vehicle, 10 minutes respawn time sounds like a good punishment.

Imagine a situation that CO post is getting attacked, while the defenders are trying to hold the bad guys, CO tries to jump in his vehicle and RTB to save the UAV for further use.

Also this can help with the ''dead-zone'' problem, which I always found weird in PR. There is a defend line and the frontlines, not even 1 soul between main bases and these positions which you consider as a ''clear''. Mortars are meh to fill this role, maybe with the CO depoyable it will be better.
